I Wish
I wish
I could sing like Andrea Bocelli
And fly like a bird
And dance like Gene Kelly.
I wish
I could make all conflict cease
And write like Dickinson
And paint like Matisse.
I wish
I could grant someone a wish
Make everything perfect
And swim like a fish.
But here are some things that are already mine:
I do not have to wish for a ball of twine
Or a vacuum cleaner or dust on the table
Or too many clothes or a miniature stable
With miniature figures to place inside it
Or a rocking chair with a lamp beside it
And I usually manage to float like a cloud
And smile at strangers and laugh out loud.
