I See the Sisters

I see the sisters lined up in a row
Wearing their new Easter bonnets
And their little white cotton gloves
That year a dull orange and beige
Were the most fashionable shades
I watch them, the oldest much taller
Than any of the others, the youngest
The most cheerful, wearing yellow
The two in between almost alike
Except for the way they hold their heads
One leaning back, somewhat shyly
The other leaning forward so boldly
Looking ahead, and the dad snapping
Photos, and the mom standing around
Her hands on the shoulders of her two
Little boys in their navy suits and ties
One leaning back, somewhat shyly
The other leaning forward so boldly
Wanting to grab the carousel prize
I see the sisters lined up in a row
We were those girls a long time ago
