A Distant Voice

You might learn a few things
Listening to that distant voice
Coming as if from outer space
Telling you what you should do
What choices you should make
Should you pay close attention
Or turn and quickly walk away
And whose voice is it anyway?

If you listen, you might betray
The face you see in the mirror
That looks at you, smiles or frowns
To tell you what you already know
That distant voice might disagree
And have a different point of view
Will you obey the voice in your head
Or heed that distant voice instead?
