I Believe in Beauty
I believe in beauty
It is there, everywhere
Flying around. When it hits
Some people in the head
Instead of being amazed
At its lifesaving splendor
They swear at it instead.
I am not one of those
In drink it, I swallow it whole
I let it devour me, too
And suddenly I am beautiful
And you would know this
If you could catch a glimpse
Of my spruced-up soul.
I believe in beauty
In the way it can creep up
And knock you senseless
And you become changed
If you let it do its thing
Spin you on a merry-go-round
And let you catch a golden ring.
I am one of those
Reaching for it, my hand
Outstretched and greedy
For all the beauty I can
Grab onto and hold.
Because it is real and true
I will never grow old.
