Where Did I Learn

Where did I learn to tie my shoes
Or knit a hat or sing the blues
Or shout with joy when spring arrives
Or bake a cake or count by fives?

Where did I learn to praise the day
And see the different shades of gray
In things that others said were black?
Where did I learn to answer back?

Where did I learn to wish on stars
And try to hide my many scars
And run when danger came to near
Or face the perils others fear?

Where did I learn to savor life
Even when it brought me strife
Even when the road was rough?
Where did I learn to be so tough?
